The Pelagornis had a wingspan up to 6 metres and inhabited most of the Continents of the world. The wingspan is one of the largest of any bird. Todays Wandering Albatross with a wing span of approximately 3 metres could fit under just one wing. Pelagornis lived for tens of millions of years from just after the extinction of the dinosaurs until about 2.5 million years ago. Currently the only remains of Pelagornis found in Australia are from the Bayside area.
